I'm probably missing the point, but...
According to Reuters, via Political Wire, Al Gore III was pulled over for speeding in his Prius and arrested for posession of marijuana. I'm sure there's going to be a big scandal about Gore's son being caught with weed (and, I believe, some perscription drugs for which he had no perscriptions), but I noticed something else about the story:
Al Gore III -- whose father is a leading advocate of policies to fight global warming -- was driving his environmentally friendly car at about 100 miles per hour on a freeway south of Los Angeles when he was pulled over by an Orange County sheriff's deputy at about 2:15 a.m. (emphasis added)
I didn't actually realize the Prius could hit 100 mph. I want one!
On a slightly different note, something about the Reuters report doesn't quite match up. As quoted above, Al the Third was pulled over at "about 2:15 a.m." (emphasis added). However, later in the story, it says this:
Gore made bail and was released at 2 p.m., Amormino said. He will receive notice of a court date within 30 days. (emphasis, as always, added)
Al Gore III aparently made his $20,000.00 bail 15 minutes before he was actually pulled over. This means that either (a) the cops screwed something up in their report; (b) the reporter screwed something up in his/her report; or (c) the car in question was not actually a Prius, but rather a DeLorean, which may have been traveling at only 88 mph. Presumably Gore was time traveling because narcotics are so expensive these days.
